The PPP appears to be surrendering Guyana to the criminal elements. They are either unable or unwilling to deal with these criminals, they are a sad example of a weak government. Why are there no special forces created to deal with the Buxton question? What is the PPP waiting on? Do they not understand the responsibility of governance? These are the questions that demand an answer from the people who elected this government.
Gunmen abduct couple
• hijack car, rape girlfriend, force man to withdraw cash from ATM
A gang of gunmen abducted a young couple from the seawalls at around 23:30hrs on Wednesday, then forced the male victim to withdraw a sum of cash from an ATM before raping his girlfriend in a cemetery.
Police said that the gunmen also made off with the woman and her companion's car.
She was released some hours later in the vicinity of a Georgetown restaurant. However the stolen car, a silver-grey Carina, has not been recovered.
According to reports, the couple was in a car that was parked behind the Guyana National Service ground when three men drove up in another vehicle.
After holding the couple at gunpoint, the men forced the male victim to accompany them into an ATM in Kitty where he withdrew $20,000.
They then took him back to one of the cars and drove to Le Repentir Cemetery. At that point another car with three other men drove up.
It is alleged that the gunmen then tied up the woman's companion and then took turns raping her.
Afterwards, they bundled her into her boyfriend's car and drove away.
Kaieteur News understands that the men released her outside a Chinese restaurant where the woman is employed as a waitress.
Meanwhile her companion managed to free himself and went to a city police station where he related his ordeal.
Both victims have given statements to the police.
Detectives are attempting to get a look at surveillance tapes at the ATM where the bandits allegedly took their male victim.
